A large wood carved paper mache mold in the shape of a rooster. It is rare in the sense that it is large scale and also a rooster, popular in the French culture.
The mold has been French polished. Some newspaper is left of the beak and tail rom the last time used. Small break on the rear tail as noted in photo.
Pretty well detailed showing spurs on legs, scales and feathers.
Those unfamiliar with wooded paper mache molds they were carved as utilitarian pieces to be used to create hollow forms to decorate and festivals . Paper, usually newspaper, was applied wet and when dry, cut off and reformed. Wood molds became obsolete when resin forms were made.
Measures 21” high, 19” beak to tail and base is 9” x 7”.
