Diminutive Louis XV ormolu & patinated bronze cachepot*
France, of period Louis XV (1715-1744) or older
A subtle, magnificent casting, of cachepot form, with ormolu shell and acanthus motif, with patinated cartouche, supported by four ormolu stylized acanthus feet.
The bottom pierced with five circular 'drainage' holes.
The interior measures 2-inch square x 2.5 -inch high
* This object which we describe as a 'Cachepot' which is perfect for a specimen succulent or any diminutive plant, originally might have been part of an inkwell or even a perfume burner.
The density of the casting and the quality of this work is exemplary example, the five 'drainage' holes executed from inception, denote a specific 18th century use and purpose.
