Large antique 19th c. grand tour Bing & Grondahl parian bisque porcelain round wall plaque made in Denmark. The bas relief decoration shows classical figures before an altar and brazier. Symbolizes old age or winter. Marked on the back. Original metal loop for hanging. Measures 11 1/2" in diameter. Excellent condition.
Bing & Grøndahl was a Danish porcelain manufacturer founded in 1853 by the sculptor Frederik Vilhelm Grøndahl and merchant brothers Meyer Hermann Bing and Jacob Herman Bing.
These plaques were a decorative feature in 19th century Civil War era interiors
