Created in Denmark during the last decade of the 18th century, this Louis XVI period painted demi-lune chest features a semi-circular top sitting above a delicately carved dentil molding. Two bow-front drawers, fitted with Classical ribbon-tied hardware, are flanked with fluted side posts creating a subtle sense of visual continuity on the façade. The chest is raised on four tapered legs with carved dentil on the knees. It is painted in a soft color typical of the Scandinavian taste for light palettes aiming at brightening the rooms during the dark winters. It boasts a nicely weathered patina and natural character revealing its nice age and use. The back is unfinished and as it is the case with demi-lune pieces, the chest will look at its best placed against a wall. With its clean lines and distressed appearance, this Danish Louis XVI period demi-lune chest of drawers circa 1790 will make for a lovely addition to any bedroom, living room or hallway.
