Raoul Ubac (1910 Cologne – 1985 Dieudonne, Oise) modern abstract lithograph in black and white, circa 1960. Floated on a silk mat under glass in the original silver gilt wood frame by Kulicke Frames, Inc. 1007 Madison Avenue, New York City. Measures 14 3/4" x 12". Good condition - wear to silver gilt on frame. Displays beautifully.
Ubac was a French painter, sculptor, photographer and engraver. He had various artistic training and travelled in Europe between 1928 and 1934. He worked mostly on photography between 1934 and 1942, embraced Surrealism in Paris and worked as a photographer for the magazine Minotaure.
Ubac first came to Paris in 1928. He was already enrolled at the Sorbonne for a degree in literary studies when he decided to switch to the Art Academy of Montparnasse. It was there he moved in the company of the Surrealists.
