this is just a great original piece. I recently acquired a collection of wonderful 1930s paintings by well listed american artist frank richardson murray. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. I am listing a few of his works this week. If there is a particular subject or location the artist painted that you would like to see, message me and maybe I have it. I have scenes from hartford, florida, new york, new jersey and even as far as baghdad (a really cool painting). This is a great scene of a downtown somewhere in geogia. Probably around the 1930s as there is both a horse and buggy as well as an early truck parked on the street. A wonderful gouache and watercolor on paper measuring 9 1/4 x 13 1/2. Unsigned but 100% guaranteed to be by murray. Very cool modernist view of a georgia town in the 1930s. Painting is in excellent condition with no sign of fading or discoloration. Recent archival matte and black frame are complimentary and ready to hang. A cut out in the bottom where the title and artist's name is done in calligraphy. I am thinking perhaps the title and information is on the back of the painting but I have not removed it from the frame. A very nice presentation. Frame measures 15 x 19 inches.

For those not familiar with the artist his biography from askart reads: "frank richardson murry was my uncle frank, professionally known as f. Richardson murray and was primarily known for portraits painted in pastel. He studied at stevenson's school of art, pittsburgh, pa.; Carnegie institute, pittsburgh, pa, art student's league, new york city; vesper lincoln george school, boston; and at beaune, france under the auspices of the sorbonne. He exhibited at the art institute, chicago; carnegie institute, pittsburgh; philadelphia academy; corcoran gallery of art, washington; boston museum of art, and knoedlers, new york, newport. Portrait commission patrons included: a.W. Mellon, w.L. Mellon, ann harding, hervey allen, n.B.T. Roney, albert shaw, walter chrysler, dr. John harvey kellogg, lady augustus nanton, judge joseph buffington, and the hon. Frederick w mansfield. He was associated with vanderbilt studios in new york, and had a year round residence in deland, florida. His last address was at 2545 brown st., Philadelphia, pa. The above information was in a printed handout to promote his work, includes a photograph of him at easel with pastel portrait and person sitting for the portrait. He did portraits of myself and two brothers in about 1945 or 46 while visiting our family in virginia, where he also did several watercolor landscapes at the time." See less
