This is one of my favorite pieces I have bought in the last few years. Having some latvian ancestry I debated keeping it but I dont have anywhere to hang it in my house. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is a wonderful illustration by important latvian artist sigismunds vidbergs. Often his work was done as illustrations for books. I imagine this was done for some publication but I have not found where this might have been published. A wonderful rich black ink drawing of a nude measuring 10 x 7 inches. Signed and dated lower right. Outstanding as drawn condition. Stiff paper measuring 20 x 15 attached verso to the back of original matte. Really just a beautiful and wonderful original drawing. Do your own research on the artist. A must have for any latvian art collector. Unframed

For those not familiar with the artist his biography from a askart reads: "latvian artist sigismunds vidbergs was encouraged early on by his teachers to pursue art, leading him to study at the saint petersburg art and industry academy. With specialities in stained and painted glass, as well as graphic design, he taught art through world war i, and later returned to latvia where he exhibited his own artwork. Influenced by artists such as beardsley and vallotton, vidbergs' costume designs and erotic illustrations in particular, evoke the graceful, curvilinear details of beardsley and the boldness of vallotton's prints. This fasionable, whimsical poster displays vidbergs' indelible sense of graphic patterns, negative space, and composition." See less
