This " Poetics of the Gesture : Schiele Twombly Basquiat " rare first edition lithograph print large hardcover art exhibition book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover book with light gray linen covered boards, embossed cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Nahmad Contemporary Gallery, New York. Printed in 2014 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the " Poetics of the Gesture : Schiele Twombly Basquiat " exhibition. With essays by Dieter Buchhart, Tobias G. Natter, and Glenn O'Brien.
" Poetics of the Gesture " marked the first time these three vanguard artists of The Twentieth Century have ever been considered in a single exhibition. Presented as a constellation of pivotal moments in the history of art, the exhibition and this rare volume are ambitious, academic, and historically innovative commitments of Nahmad Contemporary.
This special book examines the similarities of three of the most influential artists of their respective generations - Austrian Expressionist Egon Schiele, American Postwar artists CY Twombly, and American Neo-Expressionist Jean Michel Basquiat. It shows how each artist's masterful, dynamic use of line was a central component of his artistic practice.
Many of the works have rarely been exhibited publicly - drawing out a dialogue between the art works and those of their predecessors. Whereby, each artist and his respective works illuminate each other. Schiele, Twombly, and Basquiat shared a radically intense artistic expression. In this convergence, a shared exploration of transcendence, the human condition and the logic of drawing and painting emerges.
The 1st edition large format hardcover art exhibition book measures 10 5/8" W X 12 1/2" H X 7/8" D, with 152 pages. It is printed on premium paper stock featuring 136 lithograph print illustrations, including 41 full color plates, exhibition list of works, exhibition installation photographs, and photographic portraits of the artists.
