English Regency Derbyshire bluejohn egg mounted on a light gray marble plinth. Egg measures 6 cm x 4.5 cm. Plinth measures 9.3 cm x 6 cm x 2 cm deep. Good condition consistent with age and use.

Blue John is a fluorite mined in very small quantities in the village of Castleton in the Peak District, one of the only places in the world where it occurs. The present example is beautiful. There is an area of purple, white strata and a brownish hue and a reflective white sheet that brings light into the stone. See less
