The pineapple has long been the international sign of hospitality. The pineapple has been a symbol of hospitality dating back to the late 1400’s, when Christopher Columbus explored the Caribbean and took it back to England. Because of its rarity, hosts would adorn their tables with pineapples, serve it to their guests, or top dishes with it as a display of honor. Classic quilted pineapple pattern Westmoreland white milk glass vase. In pristine condition, no chips or cracks. The quilted geometric pattern is quite something, as it really does mimic the actual pineapple skin quite well. Finished off with ruffled edge. Is a nice weighty piece that will hold up to a lush bouquet of flowers. Did not find makers mark of large "W" on bottom, but Westmoreland did not mark every piece it made. Great MCM collectible.
