A rare "Wettelsheim pottery" bowl from the Biedermeier period. Wettelsheim is a village in southern Germany, the village is famous for its historic pottery production.
This Wettelsheim ceramic bowl is very rare due to its oversize and dating; this bowl was probably made specifically for a wedding celebration.
Next to the date "1843" is written "Eher(?) du zum Hause Gottes gehst bewahre deinen Fuß, eher (?) du bei einem Mädgen gehst, gib ihr gleich einen Kuss".
Very nice original condition; a stress crack in the ceramic was once stabilized with wire - probably a production error during the firing process in the kiln.
