Celestial music is an original black and white etching on cream-colored paper, realized by charles-nicolas cochin the elder (1688-1754), the … Read more Celestial music is an original black and white etching on cream-colored paper, realized by charles-nicolas cochin the elder (1688-1754), the well-known engraver of artworks by chardin, watteau, nicolas lancret, and active for the cabinet du roi. A superb original print representing an angel playing the violin surrounded by little angels on clouds in the sky. The angel is playing amazing celestial music. With strong blacks and a delicate hatching, this is an artwork by a french old master that demonstrates the full mastery of the technique. With inscriptions concerning the author on plate, on the lower margin under the engraved image, " c. N. C. Sc. ". In very good conditions, except for light foxing on the margins, some minor stains on the margins, and a little fold of the paper on the higher right corner of the sheet. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
