Handwoven in the 1970s in Nakhchivan, a historic Caucasian border region at the eastern edge of Turkey, this monumental village kilim was originally woven for family use rather than export. Three large stepped medallions run the length of the rug, floating on a cocoa-brown field and framed by bright borders that instantly give a gallery-like feel to any large living room, loft or open-plan space. The natural-dyed wool surface is tightly packed onto a strong cotton foundation, creating a crisp yet supple handle that feels robust underfoot.
At approximately 7'3" × 13'3", this is a true statement-size piece that can comfortably anchor generous seating groups, long dining tables or commercial interiors such as hotel lobbies and showrooms. The vibrant mix of madder red, teal, citrus yellow and soft pink keeps the design joyful and energetic, while the darker ground prevents the palette from becoming overwhelming. Vintage but unused and professionally cleaned, the kilim is odorless, in excellent condition and ready to lay directly on the floor, with the subtle weave irregularities that collectors expect from an authentic handwoven textile.

✨ Color Palette & Design Insight
This rug brings a bold, gallery-ready presence while still feeling grounded enough for everyday living. The deep field keeps the eye calm, allowing the saturated medallions and borders to act as strong graphic accents that work beautifully in modern, boho, eclectic and rustic interiors.
• Cocoa- and plum-brown field with gentle abrash that softens the surface
• Strong madder red and paprika orange medallions forming the main visual statement
• Bands of teal and petrol blue outlining the geometry and adding cool contrast
• Citrus notes of saffron yellow, chartreuse and lime in the floral and amulet motifs
• Touches of bubblegum pink, dusty lilac and soft lavender lending a playful, romantic note
• Clean ivory details in the inner border sharpening the pattern and keeping it crisp
• Charcoal and warm brown outer border tones that frame the rug and tie the palette together
✨ Motifs & Symbolism
The composition is built around a chain of large, stepped central medallions that echo classic Caucasian shield and diamond forms, long associated with protection and stability for the household. Within and around them, small hooked diamonds and amulet-like shapes appear as traditional guards against the evil eye. Double-ended arrow motifs energize the spine of the rug, suggesting movement, journey and guidance through life. In the surrounding borders, stylized blossoms and ram’s-horn elements express wishes for vitality, fertility and strength, while the outer band of colorful latch-hook forms acts like a protective fence encircling the entire piece. The overall effect is celebratory and confident, with dense symbolism that rewards a closer look.
