Woven in 1977 by Caucasian Turks in the Nakhchivan (Nahçıvan) region on the eastern border of Turkey, this monumental village kilim was created for personal household use rather than export. Its wool-on-cotton flatweave construction, impressive length and bold tribal geometry give it the presence of a textile artwork that can anchor even the largest living spaces, great rooms or loft-style interiors. The weaving date has been incorporated into the textile itself, adding a rare documentary touch that collectors and design-focused buyers will appreciate.
Along its more than four-meter span, the rug reads as a continuous ribbon of rhythm and color on the floor, with repeating motifs stepping down the field and framed by strong borders. In a room, it functions as a true foundation piece, ideal under a main seating group or in any generous area where a standard-size rug would feel too small. The piece is vintage but unused and in very good condition, with the gentle irregularities and not-quite-perfect rectangular outline that are typical of genuine handwoven village rugs. Professionally cleaned, completely odorless and with no repairs, it is ready to place and enjoy.

✨ Color Palette & Design Insight
The palette feels warm, grounded and authentically tribal, with classic natural-dye tones that sit beautifully alongside wood, leather and neutral textiles. It works especially well in bohemian, eclectic, rustic and farmhouse interiors, and can also bring character and history into a more minimalist space as a single strong statement piece.
• Deep madder and brick reds forming the main structure of the field and borders
• Soft beige and warm ivory areas that open up the pattern and keep the design from feeling heavy
• Muted indigo and navy notes adding depth and cool contrast within the geometric motifs
• Warm terracotta and golden wheat tones that enrich the earthiness of the overall palette
• Darker brown accents that give definition and subtle shadow to the design
• An overall time-softened, harmonious mix that feels rich and lived-in rather than loud or glossy
✨ Motifs & Symbolism
This Nakhchivan kilim is built from strong Caucasian-style geometry: stepped diamonds and hooked polygons run down the length of the field like a chain of medallions, framed by protective border bands. Ram’s horn and angular hook forms, common in village weavings from this region, are traditionally associated with strength, protection and vitality for the household. Star-like and cross-influenced details can be read as wishes for guidance, good fortune and light. As your eye travels along the length of the rug, the repeating motifs create a sense of rhythm and continuity that feels both rooted in tradition and strikingly modern in a contemporary interior.
