Wilma Rudolph
Year: 1980
Size: 89.5 in. x 48 in.
Framed size: 90 x 49.5 inches
Acrylic on Canvas, signed and dated lower right
This painting by gold medalist sprinter Wilma Rudolph was commissioned in 1980 by Anheuser Busch to be auctioned off for charity. This work is particularly interesting because it appears that Wilma was recreating a track lane, with the tan background and the white lines which frame the edge of the image. Also present are two handprints, where the runner would kneel right before the starting gun is fired.
