Created in Japan during the 19th century, this vertical linen canvas painting depicts two Buddhist monks walking together, one of them holding a partially bloomed lotus flower, symbol of enlightenment, while the other one is opening a wicker box, the content of which seems to be bringing them great joy. They are both wearing a golden bracelet and ribbon tied robes with large sleeves. The painting, measuring 25.5" wide and 48.5"high on its own, is set inside a custom made frame. The total measurements are 35"W x 58.5"H. The painting showcases a stamp in its upper right section, close to the lotus flower.
