Antique 18th century French chestnut mortar & pestle. Originally used to crush the husks on chestnuts to make into oil. Mortar made of solid burl wood. Pestle made of hand-forged solid iron. Very rare piece. Both pieces are very heavy.
Small cracks along the burl & original patches made with little pieces of wood screwed to the mortar.
