This is an extraordinary Vintage Original Lithograph, titled "The Horse, the Rider, and the Clown", from Henri Matisse's Jazz Portfolio. … Read more This is an extraordinary Vintage Original Lithograph, titled "The Horse, the Rider, and the Clown", from Henri Matisse's Jazz Portfolio. Created in 1947, this is one of the finest and most famous examples of Matisse's cut-out work - a novel style of art that the artist developed as he entered his 70's and his health began deteriorating. The idea of creating genuine art from paper cut-outs was entirely new, and a technique that Matisse had invented himself. In 1983, publisher George Braziller teamed up with the Estate of Henri Matisse and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) to create a special edition reproduction of Matisse's Jazz portfolio which included reproductions of the beautiful original pochoirs by Matisse that the 1947 portfolio included.

Copy no. 43 of the original portfolio was used in the making of these MOMA reproductions. These are the finest reproductions available, with bold and true colors, for this highly desired portfolio of Matisse.

This vintage work is in excellent condition with gorgeous depth of color and great detail. It is not signed, as issued. Sold UNFRAMED. Will ship flat and boxed to preserve integrity
