Edna Wright Andrade first studied at the Pennsylvania School of the Fine Arts (1933-1938) where she was the recipient of the Cresson European traveling scholarship (1936-1937). Andrade was a member of the Print Club (board member, 1972), the Artists Equity Association, the American Color Print Society and the Peale Club. She exhibited widely and with success including at the Des Moines Art Center, Iowa (1966), the Philbrook Art Center (OK, 1968), Pennsylvania School of the Fine Arts (1968, Mary Smith Prize winner), Montclair Art Museum (NJ, 1969), Colorado Springs Art Center (1970) and the Philadelphia Museum of Art (1972).
From 1957 to 1972, Andrade was Professor of Art at the Philadelphia College of Art and, from 1972, served as Professor of Art at Temple University. A retrospective survey of her work, titled "Cool Waves and Hot Blocks: The Art of Edna Andrade," was held at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1993. Over the course of a long and successful career, Andrade was was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards including the Childe Hassam Memorial Purchase Award and the American Academy of Arts and Letters award twice (1967, 1968). Andrade's work can be found in the permanent collections of numerous national institutions including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania School of the Fine Arts, Yale Art Gallery, Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo, N.Y. and New Jersey's Montclair Art Museum among others.
