A really stunning piece of Couroc history. This tray, labelled "The Big Apple" was designed and made by Couroc of Monterey exclusively for B. Altman & Co. department store.
The Couroc Company was founded by Guthrie Courvoisier and his wife Moira Wallace, who was an artist, in 1948. They designed and made thousands of trays, bowls & accessories which were hand inlaid by master craftsmen using shells, coins, woods & metals. Each piece is one of a kind. Sadly, Couroc stopped production of these beautiful trays in 1998.
This tray is beautiful and vibrant in almost perfect condition with little sign of use given it's age. B. Altman's closed in 1989, so we know it is at least 33 years old and could be much older.
The tray measures 12.5 x 9.5 x 5/8" deep. The apple is 5.75" tall by 5" wide.
