An excellent First Edition period offset lithograph, print, after painting "Decorative Figure on an Ornamental Background" (1927) by Henri Matisse. Comes from a rare First Limited Edition art folio published by Albert Skira in Geneva, Switzerland in the 1940s. Printed on one side. Hand tipped-in on a board of heavy paper, then mounted on a larger board of vintage paper. Detailed. Rich deep colors. Excellent condition - minor edge wear on the board, never framed.

This work has rightly been described as a miracle of structural organization. The floral motifs on the ground are smoothly combined with an intricate pattern of planes, objects are integrated into the setting without being swallowed up by it, and the figure, firmly and fully stated, has a sculpturesque plenitude that makes it seem like a statue come to life.
