An exquisite six panel folding screen of impressive scale in the traditional manner of Japanese Nihonga. Pheasants meander under a blossoming tree near the waters edge. Behind the scene simulated gold leaf shimmers in the background. Masterfully painted and signed by Robert Crowder circa 1970.
Robert Crowder lived in Japan from 1936-1943. He trained in the Nihonga style under the master Mochizuki Shunko. Later while living in Beverly Hills, California Crowder began creating his magnificent Byobu or folding screens. These screens are a testament to his dedication and love of Japanese culture.
