Signed lower right, second panel, 'Isabelle Schrock' for Isabelle Schrock Barnett (American, 1903-1995) and painted circa 1975. Additionally signed, verso, on each panel and titled, 'Hillside City' on artist card.

Born in Augusta, Kansas, Isabelle Counsil moved to California with her family at the age of five. After graduating from the the California College of Arts and Crafts in 1923, she taught fine arts in the California public schools of Garden Grove, Hughson, Turlock, and Modesto until her retirement in 1956. She was married to Menno Schrock from 1927 until his death in 1943 and, subsequently, to James Barnett. Over the course of a long and successful career, Isabelle Schrock Barnett exhibited widely and with success including at the Oakland Art Association, the San Francisco League of Women Artists and the Central California Art league, of which she was a co-founder. Barnett was the recipient of numerous prizes and juried awards for her oils, watercolors, acrylics, and serigraphs. Isabelle Schrock Barnett is well-listed in all relevant art reference works including Who Was Who in American Art (Volume III, page 2939) and Artists in California (1780-1940) (Vol II, p.992).
