This watercolor is by Miguel Dominguez (1941-) a very well-known Carmel, CA artist. It depicts a rural landscape. The painting is signed in the lower right corner and on the reverse. The Carmel Art Association Gallery label is on the reverse. It is double matted and enclosed in a nice gold frame. The painting is in very good condition with no flaws to note. The frame has one very small chip on the right stretcher bar, visible only on close inspection. Please see pictures.
Miguel Dominguez was born in El Paso, Texas on December 3, 1941. At an early age he moved with his family from El Paso to the Salinas Valley, on the Monterey Peninsula, where he spent his formative years. His family encouraged his early art involvement. Growing up in a rather rural area has enhanced his love of the landscape and open spaces. He and his wife Alexandria, have two sons, Miguelin and Alexis. Miguel Dominguez continues to live and paint on the Monterey Peninsula.
Dominguez has been an artist member of the Carmel Art Association since 1972. He served on their Board of Directors on several occasions from 1977-90. In addition to his works being exhibited in the Carmel Art Association gallery in Carmel, California, his works have been shown in several other Monterey venues. In addition, his works have shown in exhibitions in Cape Cod, New York City, Santa Fe, and Denver. He has been a 1st Place award winner in many exhibitions.
Dominguez studied art at Hartnell College in Salinas. You will find his works to be extremely detailed in nature. Dominguez' unique technique and approach to watercolors has been featured in several national art publications. (Source: Gary Stanley /ArtSanDiego)
