Set of 8 Argyle chairs by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for Atelier International
Designed 1897
This chair was exhibited at the Eighth Secession Exhibition in Vienna, Austria in 1900, where Mackintosh with his individual style contributed to the development of the Wiener Werkstätte, a famous Viennese design firm, founded in 1903 by Josef Hoffmann, Fritz Wärndorfer and Koloman Moser. The characteristic of the Argyle chair is the high backrest, which is also found in the design of other seats, such as the Hill house chair.
