Offered is a 1960s Danish Krenit lime green or chartreuse enamel on black matte metal bowl designed originally by Herbert Krenchel (b. 1922 - d. 2014) in 1954. The bowl stands on a narrow flat rounded base and is of deep rounded form with the inner bowl done in a vibrant citronella shade of green enamel within a black matte shell.
The bowl is LARGER and deeper than most found online measuring 11.63" in diameter, 7" in height, and its flat round base measures 2 3/4" in diameter.
Herbert Krenchel was not a traditional designer; rather he was a researcher at the Technical University of Denmark studying composite materials and fiber reinforcement. He first started developing his bowls after a conversation with manufacturer Torben Ørskov. Krenchel wanted to combine industrial materials into a delicate, functional piece for the kitchen, dining table, and living room. He used pressed steel with an enameled interior and a distinctive matte black exterior, patented in 1954 using fine "stone flour" to keep the enamel durable. The bowl won a prestigious Gold Medal at the Milan Triennial Exhibition in 1954.
NOTE: The plastic utensils are props, not included with the bowl.
