The interior storage … Read more Up for sale is a large antique Chinese red lacquered wedding cabinet, moon cabinet with detachable doors. The interior storage is divided into three compartments with a fixed shelf combined with two drawers and a removable shelf; there is also a "hidden" compartment on the bottom which is accessible by lifting the covering-shelf. The heavy door panels are decorated with large moon-like bronze roundel and a pair of bronze handles in flower-basket form. The exterior of the cabinet is decorated with hand-buffed opaque red lacquer in a warm and pleasant tone; the sides and back are covered with reddish-brown finish.
In overall acceptable condition with age-consistent wear, minor losses, cracks and other imperfections, some old restorations.
Early 19th century, Qing Dynasty; original from Shanxi Province; purchased in Hong Kong 1980s.
Main materials: Shanmu (Chinese fir) and pine.
