Titled: Passage to the Sea depicts a scene captured on a day trip by car, a glance along the way where a meadow meets trees, and secreted passage that leads to the ocean beyond. Reminiscent of hot encaustic wax techniques, the painting embodies a unique waterborne cold wax medium evolving countless textural layers using various tools, infused by heat, then buffed with a soft cloth to produce a smooth finish. Passage to the Sea is the first completed painting in an upcoming Bell & Finch collection of artworks using this distinctive wax medium and contemporary appearance. Landscapes, interiors, and still life will be the subjects.

Exclusively for this painting, a floating frame was hand-built, painted, and varnished in the studio. Frame dimensions are 25.25 W x 23.25 H x 1.75 D. Image painted on cradled board. Image dimensions are 24"W x 1"D x 21.5"H. Ready to hang. Will not flex or warp. Original and timeless!
