Petite in size and quite lovely to look at, solid “Gregorian” copper was hand hammered shaping the inner portion of the trays into a lotus flower pattern with “cupped” scalloped rims. In excellent condition with the lacquered baked protective finish still intact and brilliant. A few spots of oxidation that are for the most part indiscernible and a surface scratch or two underneath, which will be unseen. It weighs 1 lb. 8 oz. and measures 10” x 9” x 9” H/W/D; lower tray interior 8½” x 1” D/H; upper tray interior 5½” x ¾” D/H; distance between top tray and lower tray 4½”. Short History on Gregori Copper
P. R. Gregori and his brother Fred started Gregori Copper in 1946 in Southern California. It was a family business that began modestly in the garage of the Gregori brothers' parent's home in Capistrano Beach. In two short years, they were able to move into their permanent facility in San Clemente. P. R., the artist/founder of the company was educated at the Butler Art Institute in Youngstown, Ohio. After WW II he received hands-on experience at Craftsman Studios in Laguna Beach, California, an artistic commune in the 1920s that evolved into a facility that produced a wealth of copper products in the Arts and Crafts style. This experience inspired P.R and his brother to start Gregori Copper. They sold the company in the late 1960s.
