ARTIST STATEMENT
The process of creating is a most gratifying experience. Transforming a white canvas into an embodiment of my thoughts, experiences or commentaries in a way that connects with another human being is priceless ethereal. This process is not encumbered by preconceived ideas but driven by a visceral loyalty to the creative impulses. The choice of palettes, techniques or style is dictated solely by the creative impulse and not by what is in vogue.
Elpedio Robinson is a Jamaican visual artist renowned for his evocative paintings that explore themes of identity, memory, and cultural heritage. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Robinson spent his formative years in Warsop, Trelawny, and later in Mandeville and Christiana, Manchester, before returning to Kingston for his tertiary education. He is a graduate of the Edna Manley College of the Visual & Performing Arts, where he honed his artistic skills.
Robinson’s work is characterized by its introspective nature, often delving into personal and collective histories. His paintings frequently depict scenes from everyday life, capturing moments that resonate with a sense of nostalgia and reflection. Notable works include “In His Image I Was Created; In My Image He Died,” an acrylic on canvas piece that contemplates themes of creation and identity.
Since 2000, Robinson has been actively exhibiting his work both locally and internationally. He has participated in numerous exhibitions across Jamaica, the Caribbean, Canada, and the United States, showcasing his diverse artistic expressions. In 2022, he was featured in the “Ah Jamaica Wi Come From” exhibition in South Florida, which celebrated the rich cultural tapestry of Jamaica through the works of seven Jamaican artis
