Handwoven in 1982 in the Nakhchivan Autonomous region on Turkey’s far eastern border, this village kilim belongs to the bold Caucasus-influenced family of large, graphic flatweaves. The generous format, strong stepped medallions and joyful palette make it a powerful anchor piece for a spacious living room, great room or open-plan loft where you want real color and character underfoot.
A chain of large central medallions runs the full length of the rug, framed by rows of hooked diamonds that keep the eye moving from end to end. The warm, sunrise-like colors read as inviting rather than loud, sitting beautifully with neutral upholstery, natural wood and mixed metals in boho, eclectic, mid-century or contemporary interiors. The rug is a vintage used piece in very good condition: as with most genuine handwoven kilims it is not perfectly rectangular, and there are a few small, faint spots visible in the final photo, but it has been professionally cleaned, is completely odorless and shows no repairs, so it is ready for many more years of daily use.

✨ Color Palette & Design Insight
The palette is warm, joyful and energetic, yet still balanced enough to live with every day. It brings instant personality to calm, neutral rooms and works especially well with ivory sofas, timber floors and layered textiles.
• Rich terracotta, salmon and soft madder-red tones across the main field
• Sky blue and teal stepping around the central medallions
• Golden mustard and sunflower yellow lighting up the diamonds
• Dusty rose, lilac and blush pink notes in the border motifs
• Chocolate and walnut browns grounding the outlines and outer edges
• Soft ivory highlights in the fringes and small pattern details
✨ Motifs & Symbolism
The design is organized around a chain of large, stepped central medallions, a classic Caucasian-inspired motif associated with protection and stability at the heart of the home. Hooked diamonds and ram’s horn-like forms in the border speak of strength, resilience and the wish for abundance. Smaller amulet shapes and stylized bird motifs near the ends are traditionally woven as charms against the evil eye and as symbols of good news and safe journeys. The woven date “1982” anchors the rug in a specific moment of village life, turning it into a colorful document of the region’s weaving culture as well as a striking decorative piece.
