Paul Goode for The Rand McNally Company, Chicago, has such presence, in part because of its tall stature of almost 3 feet, but moreso because of its truly masculine walnut presentation stand and the soft warm and slightly aged hues of the globe itself.

This is a "Political Globe" by the well-known American cartographer and geographer John Paul Goode, and as such, it's focus is on depicting the worlds political boundaries of countries, states, capital cities, waterways, and territories of imperialist nations of the time. Goode's collaboration with Rand McNally began in 1923 and ended upon his death in 1932. Given this fact and the borders of countries presented on this globe, I would suggest but cannot confirm this globe dates between 1925 and 1930.

The globe is beautifully presented on a solid walnut tripod stand in the late Regency Style mounted with a decorative engraved brass vertical meridian ring and a solid walnut horizontal ring with well proportioned snake-foot feet.

The Rand McNally manufacturing processes for their globes at this time explain the globe itself was created by hand using a hollow shell of stiff paper built up in layers coated with plaster, finished to a smooth surface, then printed paper map gores were meticulously applied onto the sphere with high precision to perfectly align each gore with the meridian.

This library globe is in Very Good Condition with slight wear from age. It would be perfectly at home in an office, library, bar, or gentlemen's club room evoking the needed character and history it so well provides.
