This lovely traditional cloisonne vase and jar with lid, circa 1950-1960, depicts peony and cherry blossoms in shades of red, pink and yellow with shaded green foliage against a background of medium blue. The cloisons (wire shapes) creating the background are in the forms of clouds. The brass form of the vase rolls over the upper rim and around the base of these items.
Both pieces feature a Ruyie border, representing the Chinese imperial scepter’s head which looks like an upside down cloverleaf with a dot in the center of each clover. The symbol is repeated in a band around the tops of the pieces.
These pieces have the medium teal/blue counter enamel on the bottom that is typical of Chinese cloisonné. The body enamel shows some deterioration and oxidation with light pitting, which confirms they were probably made in the mid 20th century.
