Created in China during the Qing Dynasty, this low kang coffee table features a rectangular top sitting above two drawers fitted with brass ring pulls. The term kang comes from a platform destined to receive people atop, typically found in Northern China and made of hollow brick, allowing to burn fuel underneath to provide some heat. Furniture around had to be low.
