A ceramic has been glazed with a fine crackle buff glaze and then decorated with overglaze enamels and gilt. The decoration is minute and the intricacy is overwhelming. The two main panels depict detailed scenes of court life with Geisha and Samurai. These panels are surrounded with detailed fabric designs in gold.. The mouth and neck are not glazed and would have had a fitted lid.

The flat foot is unglazed and the base is glazed. The gar is unmarked.

MEASUREMENTS

6” (15.2 cm) diameter x 6 ½” (16.5 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 13.0 oz (840 g)

CONDITION

There are no cracks, chips, breaks, or repairs. The lid is missing. There is light wear to some of the faces, as well as the gilding along the shoulder. Otherwise, the jar has very little wear and shines with gold brilliance.

Boy, you will be able to spot this jar from across a dark room. It has good size and visual shine. A real tour de force. An impressive amount of work went into painting this jar. See less
