This place corresponds to the old door of Pantin on the wall of the General Farmers because one left by this door to go to Pantin. It then took the name of Porte du Combat, because of the animal fights that took place there from 1778, when they ceased to take place in the rue de Sèvres. It was sometimes called Porte Saint-Louis because of the proximity of the Saint-Louis hospital.
During the Battle of Paris in 1814, the gate was heroically defended by naval gunners, the National Guard, and Polytechnician students.
