About:
The University Bridge in France is located in Lyon and crosses the Rhône river. It was built on the site of a former ferry to serve the university buildings erected between 1876 and 1898. When it was inaugurated in 1903, the structure was called the Pont des Faculties, but it was quickly renamed the Pont de l'Université. Its design is the work of engineers Jean Résal, Paul Hinnovait, and Ernest Fabrègue and the Société des Forges de Franche-Comté carried out its construction.
Damaged in 1944, a temporary wooden bridge was put in place, then the bridge was definitively reopened in 1947. The bridge, 267.50 m long and 20 m wide, comprises three metal arches cast in Longwy and resting on stone piles from Porcieu-Amblagnieu.
