Louis Vuitton steamer trunk wardrobe trunk chest France circa 1880
Louis Vuitton Haute Rayee Stripe Malle Courrier steamer trunk, 1976-1888. Retaining its original numbered label, #10198. To protect against imitation, Vuittan replaced the earlier Trianon canvas with a beige and brown striped canvas in 1876 named Rayee Stripe. The Rayee canvas was used until the introduction of the Danier canvas in 1888. The canvas surfaces have been cleaned and the brass polished. The trunk retains two of its original iron castors. Original brass hardware and interior showing some wear and staining. Some shipping labels retained. Obtained through the estate of Juliette Moen Macy of Winnetka, IL d.1976
the trunk is fitted to a custom forged iron stand, included
Condition: offered in excellent original condition with no major faults, age related knocks and marks, various scuffs in line with age, left side handle missing hook, no odours or smells, all brassware present, stunning show piece.
