The wood is natural with a great "white wash" type of treatment, which really enhances the carved details. I have paired the lamp with a vintage Stiffel lampshade and can include or exclude it for you. It may save on shipping to purchase a shade yourself, though I think this one looks great with it. The lampshade has great pleated detailing in a light tan, taupe color. There are some signs of age and wear. The lamp turns on/off with a knob at the socket. It takes one standard sized bulb.
