This lovely pair of rustic benches are simply styled with thick tops, rounded legs splayed in an A-frame style, supported with double stretchers, with simple spandrels and apron fitted into the seat.
They were produced in Shanxi during the mid 19h century, where portable benches like these were quite typical of seating used throughout China, often seen outside shops and restaurants.
Produced in elm wood, the pair still have traces of the original darker finish that is still visible underneath the chunky seats. Perfect to use today for seating at a kitchen table, as extra side tables or under a window piled up with cushions.
Sold as a pair, the price shown is for the two benches.
