A short history of members of the McClellan family in Los Angeles, including historical information about McClellan Manufacturing, was published in Rockwell Dennis Hunt's 1926 book CALIFORNIA AND CALIFORNIANS, Volume 4, page 321. See the image we have included from the page, which reads:
"WILLIAM MCCLELLAN. Members of three generations of the McClellan family have been identified with the founding and development of the McClellan Manufacturing Company, manufacturers of solid mahogany furniture at 951 South Los Angeles Street, a business that is properly rated as one of the solid and substantial concerns of Southern California.
William McClellan, Sr., came to California in 1887, and the following year his son, William McClellan, Jr., came to the state, accompanied by his wife and his son, Thomas Lee McClellan. William, Sr., and William, Jr., immediately engaged in business as manufacturers of picture frames. As the years went by, they expanded and adapted their business to changing conditions, gradually evolving to the modern manufacturing plant devoted to mahogany household furniture exclusively. They aim to produce beautiful designs in mahogany and use only the solid material, making no veneered products.
William McClellan, Jr., was born in Illinois, and lived for a number of years at Union City, Michigan, where he married Harriet Lee. Their son, Thomas Lee McClellan, was born at Union City in 1881. He was a child when brought to Los Angeles, where he was educated in the public schools, and as a young man entered the furniture business and is now secretary, treasurer, and manager of the McClellan Manufacturing Company, of which his father is president.
Thomas Lee McClellan married Violet McClain, daughter of H. A. McClain, who came to California when a young boy with a group of Mormons from Utah and settled at Green Meadows. H. A. McClain was for twenty-nine years a police sergeant in Los Angeles but is now retired. The two daughters of Thomas Lee McClellan are Margery Lee and Mary.
William McClellan is a member of the Los Angeles Athletic Club, and he and his son are both members of the Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Trade and Furniture Association."
Of note is that W. McClennan, Jr. and T.L. McClellan both served as presidents of the company, William at the 951 South Los Angeles Street (no longer existing) address and Thomas Lee at the 6700 Avalon Boulevard (still existing and inhabited by a different business), Los Angeles, address.
