Created in Provence, Southern France … Read more Decorate an entryway or a living room with this elegant and colorful antique console table. Created in Provence, Southern France circa 1880, the large table stands on cabriole legs decorated with acanthus leaves at the shoulder, and ending with escargot feet. The bombe serpentine apron is decorated with an exquisite hand carved shell motif flanked with foliage and acorn decor. Both sides are embellished with a scalloped decor. The wide and deep surface is dressed with a shaped variegated "Breche d' Alep" marble top (Rhone region). The Louis XV table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich two tone patinated painted finish in the yellow palette. It has exquisite carvings and dressed with a beautiful stone top!
Breche d'Alep marble was extracted in the commune of Tholonet in Bouches-du-Rhône from 1712, then in Beaurecueil in 1735 and in Saint-Antonin in 1756. Against a yellow background, Breche d'Alep marble is made up of large rounded fragments of browns, greys, red or blacks. The Breche d'Alep marble was used a lot during the 18th and 19th century, and also the start of the 20th century, especially for furniture and fireplaces. The Carnavalet museum in Paris conserves a Louis XV chest of drawers in Chinese lacquer, legs from Madame Bouvier, with a shelf made out of Breche d'Alep.
