Subject: Head of a Man, Egyptian Black Granite, circa 945 B.C.E. The Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore, Maryland.
Meticulously carved black granite head copied from the solemn, powerful figures of the great Middle Kingdom, about 2,000 B.C.E. The expert craftsmanship displayed in the precise carving of this very hard stone must have defied any tools of the period. Arrangement of the hair in cross bands without a central part, impossible in real life, is a sculptor's pattern device. (Certificate of Authenticity)
