This is really a wonderful original. I bought the painting without knowing anything about the artist. I just thought it was a wonderful original work that almost had a photo realistic view to it. Signed in the lower left, this painting is by well listed California artist Albert Bechely Crundall. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. I dont know what kind of flowers this is of, but it definitely seems like a western or California based flower. Doesnt look like much that I have seen here in New England and the Northeast. Watercolor and gouache on paper measuring 18 x 14 1/2 inches. Excellent as painted condition. Really about as good as the day the artist finished it. Quadruple matting in muted colors really makes the painting jump. Simple silver frame is in good condition and ready to hang. Frame measures 27 x 23 inches.
For those not familiar with the artist, his biography from askart reads: "Albert J. Bechely-Crundall was born on October 31, 1906 in France to English parents. He lived in England before moving to Los Angeles, California in 1928. While in Los Angeles, he met Harriet Hasbrouck who encouraged him to study art at Otis Art Institute. Albert and Harriet were married in Fontana, California in 1931. He worked at a small advertising company in downtown Los Angeles before landing a stable position at Douglas Aircraft Company in Venice, California. There, he worked his way up to head of commercial art and, then, was shortly transferred to McDonnell-Douglas in Long Beach. At the age of 58, Albert retired, and with his wife, Harriet, moved up to Carmel where he pursued his love for painting. He became a wonderful landscape artist using the medium of watercolor. Many of his paintings were sold through a local gallery in Carmel. He and his beloved wife, Harriet, were proud parents to three children--Philip, Eric, and Carolyn. His daughter, Carolyn, who resides with her husband Mike in Salt Lake City, Utah displays many of his paintings in her home. Albert and Harriet were moved to Salt Lake City in 1996 with the help of their daughter, Carolyn. On January 22, 1997 Albert passed away at the age of 90. It was shortly after that that Harriet joined him on July 17, 2001. They lived a wonderful and fulfilling life together. He was a member of the Western Watercolor Society"
