I think it is a significant work from a significant book. The thing is, I think the painting will have much more meaning to a different person and really belongs in a collection with someone that it connects with. The best description I have seen of this book reads: "Pugdog is among the first modern young children's readers to address gender stereotyping, using animals as misunderstood beings based on their physical characteristics and play preferences. The story shows a tenderness between pets and their owners and explains the concept of acceptance to children through U'ren's amusing illustrations and compassionate text."

This is the original story illustration for page 29 of Pugdog by Andrea U'ren (New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2001), with publisher's label on acetate overlay. Mixed media, including gouache and crayon on thick paper. 220x233 mm; 8 3/4x9 1/4 inches, on 12 1/4x16 1/4-inch sheet. Signed "Andrea U'Ren" in lower right image, with handwritten artist's label on verso. Outstanding as painted condition. Really a stunning work. I have included a signed copy of the book with the illustration. Truly just an outstanding original illustration and would make a great gift for the right person or collector. Do your own research on this work. The artist's work virtually never comes to market. Particularly a work of this quality and subject. See less
