I was lucky enough to recently acquire a collection of these wonderful original paintings by English artist Fiona Saunders. Saunders is British artist who graduated from the Royal College of Art and was commissioned by Stephanie Hoppen Gallery to create this series of 19th Century shoes. They were exhibited back in 1991 at the gallery in a show titled "Shoe Fantasy" where these paintings were purchased. I dont know if as a result of this show or as planned with this show, the Bombay Company recreated the paintings in a series of prints. If you check online, you can see many of the prints available for sale. They were also recreated as Limoges trinket boxes. I have searched and searched and been unable to find any other original paintings like this. This is probably my favorite of the entire bunch. A large elaborate painting of a white and blue woman's boot. Gouache and watercolor on paper with sight size measuring about 15 x 12 inches. Stunning as created condition. There might be some consistent toning to the paper but not sure. Very minor rippling to the paper. Original hand gessoed gold leaf lined mattes and beaded molding frame as they were presented for the exhibition. Mattes show some crackling but really a stunning presentation of these scarce original paintings. Frame measures 22 1/4 x 20 1/4 inches.
