Woven in 1994 on a village loom in the Nakhchivan autonomous region on the Turkish–Caucasian border, this large handwoven kilim brings strong tribal energy and a gallery-like presence to any interior. The design is built from stacked geometric medallions floating on a warm brown ground, framed by a joyful border of stylized flowers and amulet forms in vivid jewel tones. On the floor it reads like a piece of graphic folk art, ideal for anchoring a generous seating area, open-plan loft, studio or dining space where color and pattern can take center stage.
The natural abrash in the brown field, combined with fiery reds, cobalt blues, saffron yellows and raspberry pinks, gives the rug a layered, lived-in character that feels both authentic and celebratory. As is often the case with genuine village weavings, the piece is not perfectly rectangular and in this example the slant is more noticeable than average, adding to its handmade charm but worth noting for precise layouts. Overall it is a vintage used rug in good condition, woven in wool on a cotton foundation, professionally cleaned, odorless and ready for everyday enjoyment.

✨ Color Palette & Design Insight
This rug offers a bold, joyful palette that immediately warms and energizes a room while the deep browns keep everything grounded. It pairs beautifully with neutral upholstery, wood, leather and modern or eclectic furniture, acting as a statement piece that defines the entire space.
• Fiery madder red in the main field and borders for strong visual impact
• Variegated chocolate, chestnut and walnut browns in the ground with visible natural abrash
• Cobalt and denim blues outlining the medallions and repeating through the border motifs
• Mustard and saffron yellows, bright fuchsia, raspberry pink and lilac accents in the floral and amulet forms
• Teal and forest greens plus slate and charcoal greys adding depth in secondary elements
• Small notes of ivory and pale beige that lift the pattern and keep the composition balanced
✨ Motifs & Symbolism
The composition is organized around a chain of large, shield-like central medallions with stepped and hooked outlines, classic protective forms in Caucasian-influenced village weaving. Within and around these medallions, nested diamonds, small crosses and star-like elements speak to guidance, good fortune and the four directions, while the wide border is filled with stylized floral and boteh-inspired clusters that evoke blossoms of abundance and growth. The density of motifs, especially along the border, gives the rug a celebratory, almost ceremonial feel, while the strong axial layout of the medallions brings order and structure to the lively color. The result is a piece that feels both protective and uplifting, making a room feel more personal and storied.
