Vladimir Ekimov



Vladimir Ekimov was born in Smolensk in 1971. He studied the technique of the old masters of the High Renaissance and the Northern Renaissance, particularly, the Dutch painters of the 17th century, at the Yaroslavl Art College. Like the masters of the old times, Ekimov uses a process consisting of several stages. The first preparatory layer of paint is a thin colored priming. Next, the artist applies a thick layer of paint, choosing warm, earthen colors. The general background of the painting varies from brown to gray. His distinct strokes are used to emphasize an important detail, for example, candle light. The combination of the two cultural traditions, Dutch and Russian, makes his works unique and inimitable.
