Antique Persian Malayer runner, 03'05 x 09'07. The abrashed brown field features a small-scale Herati pattern spread across the composition. The Classic Herati design, also known as the Mahi or Fish pattern, is amongst the most widespread and well known of all Persian designs, consisting of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. The Herati motif is widely used in Iran and believed to represent the small fishes come up just beneath the surface of the water to swim in the full moon s reflection. Rendered in variegated shades of brown, camel, mint, tan, sand, light green, caramel, ecru, latte, taupe, almond, and beige with other accent colors.
