This remarkable nude from 1924 just stops you in its tracks. In some respects neo-classical (think Manet's Odalisque), it is also distinctly Modernist, with simple volumes of form reminiscent of some of Picasso's paintings prior to his shift to cubism with Braque and Gris. Modigliani had painted dozens of his famous nudes around 5 - 10 years before this. At the time this was painted, Fitzgerald, James Joyce, Hemingway and other expatriates were experiencing their adventures in Paris, and certainly the artist was taking cues from the whirlwind changes that had occurred in visual art over the prior 15 years. For me, it evokes the age so beautifully. Signed, framed and ready to hang. Framed 28" x 41", 24" x 36" without frame.
Proudly presented by Guy Lyman Fine Art, New Orleans, with our firm guarantee.
